May Day and Trains

It is a holiday from school today because it is May Day. This is a non-religious holiday in Germany on which many families get out and about - hiking, grilling, etc. Here in Kandern it was the first day for rides on the local tourist train. I didn't ride the train today but plan to do so soon - I've lived in Kandern 16 years and never ridden on the train. I guess it's true that the familiarity of our town makes us miss out on the hidden gems in it.

Another culural moment for May 1 is the appearance of the May Pole in town.
